Now one company in Tokyo is offering a natural solution to the consuming straw issue. Maybell Asia Co Ltd has released “greener nature straws, ” cut from grass of the species Lepironia grown on the pesticide-free farm in lower Vietnam. This grass offers naturally hollow stems, so all it requires to turn them towards drinking straws is enjoying, washing, cutting into straw-size lengths, and drying in a special oven.
The resulting straws possess the crisp, thin texture so desired for straws (and and so lacking in paper straws) and so are completely stable in drinks. They are 100% biodegradable allowing it to be stored for up to a year after that manufacture date.
