Well, to begin with differentiating between a healthy and an infected wound, you must look for the wound drainage. If there is any kind of fluid that the wound produces, then it will be considered infected. 

This fluid will have a terrible smell and may look yellowish. A wound will be considered in its healing state if you detect a clear or pink fluid leaking out.
