If considering the recent study, often 'slipped' (or prolapsed) disc causes the sudden severe lower-back pain. Disc often presses on a nerve root which might cause pain & other counter symptoms in the body. In most cases, the symptoms start to ease off gradually within few weeks. Thus the usual advice would be to carry on as normal as much as possible as you can. Of course, painkillers may help to reduce this; But physical treatments such as spinal manipulation may also be helpful. In case if the symptoms persist, the surgery might be counted as an emergency option.
In the human body, each disc has two parts: first a soft, gelatinous inner portion & a tough outer ring.
Injury or weakness can cause the inner portion of the disc to protrude through the outer ring, which is known as a slipped, herniated, or prolapsed disc. This causes pain and discomfort. If the slipped disc compresses one of our spinal nerves, possibly we may experience numbness & pain along the affected nerve. Even in severe instances, we may require surgery to remove or repair the slipped disc to fix the disk pain.
We can have a slipped disc in any part of our spine, from our neck to our lower back. The lower back is one of the more common areas in the human body for slipped discs. Our spinal column is an intricate network of nerves and blood vessels. In the slip-disk problem, a slipped disc can place extra pressure on the nerves and muscles around it.
In Other Words, A slipped disk occurs whenever a soft internal section of the intervertebral disk protrudes through the outer layer. Basically, a human backbone, or spine, consists of 26 bones (called vertebrae). Between each vertebra lie rubbery, cushion-like pads called “disks.” These disks help keep the vertebrae in place and act as shock absorbers.
During the years of surviving with a slipped disk, repeated spine fractures can cause chronic lower back pain as well as loss of height or curving of the spine.
Let's talk about what causes Slip-Disk; usually, a slipped disc happens when the outer ring becomes weak or torn and allows the inner portion to slip out. This problem might happen with age. Certain motions may also cause the slipped disc problem. A disc can slip out of place while you are trying to twist or turning to lift a heavy or larger than your capacity object. Lifting a very large, heavy object can make a great strain on the lower back, very possibly resulting in a slipped disc. Thus if you have a very physically demanding job that requires a lot of lifting, needless to say, that you are supposed to be at increased risk for slipped discs.
Overweight individuals are also at increased risk for a slipped disc because their disks must support the additional weight. Weak muscles and a steady lifestyle may also be helpful to contribute to the development of your slipped disc.
As you get older, you are more likely to experience a slipped disc. This is because your discs begin to lose some of their protective water content as you age. As a result, they can slip more easily out of place. They are more common in men than women.
