What is PCB Fabrication?

PCB fabrication is the process or procedure that transforms a circuit board design into a physical structure based upon the specifications provided in the design package. This physical manifestation is achieved through the following actions or techniques: Imaging desired layout on copper-clad laminates.

What is the process of PCB Fabrication?

  1. PCB development: It is defined as the process of taking a circuit board design from design to production. Which includes 3 stages: design, manufacturing and testing. And for all the simplest designs, this process is iterative with the object of arriving at the highest quality within the allotted development time.

  2. PCB Manufacturing:PCB Manufacturing is a two-step process which starts with a board fabrication and ends with printed circuit board assembly.

  3. PCB Testing: It is sometimes referred to as the third stage of PCB Development and comes after PCB manufacturing. Testing during development is done to check the operational functions of the board. During this stage, any errors or areas that need to design should be modified to improve are identified.

  4. PCB Assembly:PCB assembly or PCBA is the second stage of PCB Manufacturingin which the board components are mounted through the soldering process.

The process of PCB Fabrication

  1. Imaging desired layout on copper-clad laminates

  2. Remove excess levels of copper from inner layers to reveal traces

  3. Creating PCB layers stack up by laminating board materials at high temperatures.

  4. Drilling holes to mounting holes.

  5. Remove excess levels of copper from inner layers to reveal traces

  6. Plating pin holes via holes.

  7. Adding protective coating surface or solder masking.

  8. Logos or other marking on printing.

  9. A finish may be made on the surface of copper.
