The difference between plexiglass and ordinary glass
1. Plexiglass is highly transparent. Plexiglass is currently the best polymer transparent material, with a light transmittance of 92%, which is higher than that of glass. Ordinary glass can only transmit 0.6% of ultraviolet light, but plexiglass can transmit 73%. The plexiglass is 50mm thick and can clearly see the opposite. The ordinary glass is green.
2. Plexiglass has high mechanical strength. The strength of plexiglass is relatively high, and its ability to resist stretching and impact is more than 7 times higher than ordinary glass. There is a kind of plexiglass that has been heated and stretched. The molecular segments are arranged in a very orderly manner, which significantly improves the toughness of the material. Nail into this plexiglass, even if the nail penetrates, there is no crack in the plexiglass. This plexiglass will not break into pieces after being penetrated by bullets. Therefore, stretch-treated plexiglass can be used as bulletproof glass and also as a cockpit cover on military aircraft.
3. Plexiglass itself is lightweight. The density of plexiglass is 1.18kg / dm3. The material of the same size has only half the weight of ordinary glass and 43% of metal aluminum (which is a light metal).
4. Plexiglass is easy to process. Plexiglass can not only be cut by lathes, drilled by drilling machines, but also can be bonded and bent into various shapes, such as acrylic display racks, acrylic boxes, acrylic trays, acrylic frames and other products.
Therefore, the application of plexiglass products is more extensive.
