ABAP is a programming language that runs in the SAP run-time environment. It was created by SAP for the development of application programs, including Reports, Module Pool Programming. ABAP is a fourth-generation programming language used for development and customization purposes in the SAP software. Currently positioned along with Java as the primary language for SAP application server programming, most of the programs are executed under the control of the run-time system.

You can also write down the code for the new requirement of the client or if they need to modify the existing code using the enhancement framework.
